Superfast Broadband is Coming to Porthleven

The plan to roll out superfast broadband through-out Cornwall is well under way with many places able to access this now, or very soon. But how does Porthleven fair in this? Pretty good really, as since a briefing I recently attended I am mightily impressed with what has happened and what is going to happen in the next twelve months.

Porthleven will get fibre to the premises (FTTP) and fibre to the cabinet (FTTC). Now, I cannot say too much at the moment due to some of this information is still restricted, but what I can say is a lot of Porthleven will be able to access FTTP. The FTTC should be available in the first half of 2012, with FTTP being available in the latter half of the year.

This is a huge project with the aim of 250,000 premises covered by 2014, and 10,000 businesses connected by 2015. So far, 16,000 premises have availability of FTTC with the aim of having 90,000 by the end of March 2012.

This is massive Andrew. Thanks for the update. FTTP in Porthleven would be amazing for the village…..

Sounds great Andrew – FTTP and especially good upload speeds would be brilliant for my business needs.

Andrew, I still question the statement "Superfast is coming to Helston" – just because it's coming to Helston does not mean its getting to Porthleven and any sooner than anywhere else. Although they have apparently laid the tubing from Helston to Porthleven have they arranged the installation of power from Western Power – if so can you find out when this might be delivered as without it SFBB will not happen in Porthleven.

Through CCC can we get acces to this fund to do a village community project ?

The work for FTTC really starts early next year and should be available by March 2012. However, some of the work is being carried out now. Porthleven is in the process of having two new green cabinets fitted.

As for FTTP, some areas of Porthleven could have access to this by the end of 2012.

I had a meeting with the team behind this project and was very pleased what I heard. Some of the information I was told I cannot say because of commercial sensitivity, but it is good news.
